Finishing off and Keeping it Tidy

I have recently discovered a sew along and chat on Facebook and YouTube on Saturday mornings. This prompted me to look for the lady's website and channel on YouTube. Consequently I've spent the last few weeks devouring her tutorials, browsing her website, planning orders and makes. An order for some fabric and essentials was finally placed and I've managed a couple of makes.
Most of the tutorials on YouTube are bags and items for tidying and storage. Having recently, finally got around to finishing the refurb of our sitting room (apart from the ottoman which I need to wait until we're out of lockdown to do), the final items were a couple of cushion covers for the sofa, I made one in the Autumn but the 2nd I've not got around too. I had a spare few hours last week and finally made the second one so the sofa is now adorned with new throws and new cushions and I love the finished affect.

Mr CBK is the remote hogger. The remote controls are always on his side of the sofa, on the arm or strewn between him an me. When he's not hogging them they're just left, abandoned on the sofa, which annoys me ! Plus when they're on the arm, he often knocks them off. So I had some fabric left from the stool revamp and the new cushion covers and made an over the arm remote tidy. Admittedly it lives on the arm on his side of the sofa (yes we have sides, his side is completely dented and flattened to his shape and totally uncomfortable to me, my side has the cushions) but I'm never going to have control of the remote when he's around, as much as I've tried, it's just never going to happen.
The next make, and this was a little tougher, was a basket for the kitchen table for all the kids homework/remote learning stuff. It always ends up just piled up against the wall and if you move or knock the table, something falls off down the back and then it's a race between us and our beloved pooch to see who can get to it first. So, armed with fabric and my new purchase of bosal stabiliser foam, off I went up to my sewing room to create and I'm really pleased with the finished result. This is the first time I have ever made any thing like this let alone the first time I have used bosal. I have to admit, sewing the base in and sewing the lining in was a test of wills but me and my trusty machine won over. So finally, a tidy place to keep all the kids schooling bits and pieces, now just to train them to put everything in there at the end of the home schooling day.

Next on my list is a couple of birthday gifts and a couple of things for my sewing room to help with storage there and if I can find the right equipment, something for my car. Watch this space to find out more...
