I found my creative gene!

Will my story inspire you?

For years I said "I don't have a creative gene!"

My mom can turn her hand to anything, sewing, knitting, gardening, generally being creative, she can do it. My dad is similar in other ways, he’s always great at DIY, can build a fantastic wardrobe or cupboard and loves restoring wood and furniture. My sister, although she says she’s not, always seems creative and arty to me. Then there was me, not a creative or arty bone in my body. For years I just thought the creative gene had passed me by.

In 2016 I found myself making a pair of curtains, in organza, for the marquee for the PTA summer ball!  I hadn't had my sewing machine out in years !  Soon after I was making bunting for the children's bedrooms.

Then in the winter of 2017-18 we had the "Beast from the East" and as a family we welcomed a puppy into our home.  On a particularly snowy afternoon after donning our snow gear and warm clothes just to take our puppy for a 10 minute walk, drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows to get warm, I found I had some time on my hands and picked up the crochet hook I'd bought 2 years previous and had done nothing with, found a scrappy bit of yarn and a YouTube tutorial and off I went...Crochet found it's way into my heart and I was 'hooked'!

Fast forward to now and several baby blankets, ponchos and shawls later I have realised I do have a creative gene it's just taken a long time to mature and I'm still learning.

So this is my blog, my chat from the craft room, which is the spare bedroom in our home, created during lockdown 2020, when my husband, Mr KMT, was working from home and took over the dining room and I had to find somewhere else to house my sewing machine. Here I will share my creations, my disasters and general craft chat.
